The Ultimate Guide to an Active & Rejuvenating Weekend in the Avon, Minnesota Area.

Summer is officially here, and you know what that means - party season! Weddings, family reunions, bachelorette/bachelor parties, 4th of July - you name it, and there is a party for it in a Minnesota Summer. We only get 3-4 months of solid warm weather, so it is off to the races!

What if we took just one weekend to slow down, relax, and enjoy some activities that rejuvenate and fuel your soul? At Rugged Wellness, we've pulled together a weekend agenda of all our favorite things to do for an active and rejuvenating weekend in the Avon, Minnesota area" - Enjoy!

Step 1: Coffee
There is no better way to start your day than with a big cup of coffee from Gathering Grounds in Avon, MN. They always serve fresh, high quality products that support our local businesses - how cool is that?!

Step 2: Yoga
Up next, a relaxing round of Apples and Asana with Shanti Yoga at Milk & Honey Ciders. This class is typically in Vinyasa style, which I love, because of the fluid movement-intensive practices. This style also matches intentional breath to the movements, bringing in another element to heighten the experience while building strength and flexibility. The addition of breath work has many physical and mental health benefits, and put simply, it just feels good!

Step 3: Mobile Sauna
Now that your muscles have been worked and your body is flowing with endorphins, it is time for the first round of sauna. The Rugged Wellness MN mobile barrel sauna is wood-fired, so I always fire it up and take the 25 minutes to hydrate while it heats up to my desired temperature (about 150-170°F).

For the first round, I usually sit in the mobile sauna dry; meaning no water is poured on the rocks. 15-20 minutes is the ideal time for me, but others are comfortable for 5-10 minutes or even longer. When it is time for a break, I prefer a cold water dip in the lake or using bucket ice water (someday, I hope to have an outdoor shower)! These bottle attachments also work great for a mobile sauna rinse. Don't forget to hydrate!

For the second round in the mobile sauna, it gets steamy! I start by pouring 3 spoonfuls of  water on the rocks, close my eyes, and breathe through it. This process is known as "löyly". I find the additional humidity makes this round a little more challenging, so 10-15 minutes is enough for me. Another cold water dip or shower, then rest.

Step 4: Bike Ride
Avon is located along the Lake Wobegon Regional Trail, which has 65 miles of paved pleasure riding to get your heart pumping! There are various trail rides and other events throughout the year to check out and add to your weekend fun.

Step 4.5: Happy Hour
You can insert "Happy Hour" anywhere on this Saturday agenda! It is a great way to connect with friends and have a few good laughs. My go-to happy hour is Bad Habit Brewing in St. Joseph, MN. They are family friendly and have world class beer and soda. While you're in town, check out Bruno Press and other JoeTown businesses to shop local. I list this one as Step 4.5, because St. Joseph is also an excellent stop on your bike ride!

Step 5: Kayak or Paddle board
As you may be able to tell from our photos on social media, we love the water almost as much as we love the sauna. The Avon Area Lakes are excellent for kayaks, paddle boards, swimming, and fishing. I love going out for a loop - especially when the baby loons are out on the water!

Step 6: Lakeside Dinner
If you're looking for a laid back, hometown vibe, PJ's On The Lake is your place. I highly recommend the BBQ ribs, walleye, and the burgers! Or, if live music and lakeside patio are more your jam, Fisher's Club might be the ticket.

Step 7: Sunset Mobile Sauna
Middle Spunk Lake in Avon has the best sunsets, especially during the summer months. A dip in the lake followed by another round of dry sauna is the perfect way to relax after a big day of activities. Rugged Wellness MN will bring the mobile sauna to your home or happy place, or email us to learn more about Bench Time opportunities in Avon!

We hope you enjoy exploring everything on the "Ultimate Guide to an Active and Rejuvenating Weekend in the Avon Area" - what else would your agenda include?
